    Title: Four Score (WeeklyBeats #1)
    Style: Violent Acoustic/Blues
    Instrumentation: Acoustic Guitar, Vocals
    Tuning: Drop D
NOTES: This song was intended to be my first submission to http://weeklybeats.com
Sadly, my daylight hours were absurdly busy and I unknowingly missed the deadline. That being the case, I am still presenting it here since I DO want to keep with the idea of writing one new song per week. :)

    Title: Leslie Anne Lavine
    Original Artist: The Decemberists
    Style: Acoustic
    Instrumentation: Acoustic Guitar, Vocals
    Tuning: Standard
NOTES: A new Decemberists cover! I have been feeling incredibly blue this weekend so I thought i would give this little song the blues vocals treatment.

    Title: Nova
    Style: Acoustic
    Instrumentation: Acoustic Guitar
    Tuning: DADGAD
NOTES: Here is a rough recording of another new song! This is meant to be a very mellow, slightly technical guitar piece to give me a break when I play a set. There isn’t a ton of complicated fretwork going on here, so just relax and let the groove take you away.

    Title: Baxter
    Style: Blues/Violent Acoustic
    Instrumentation: Acoustic Guitar / Vocals
    Tuning: Drop D
NOTES: Here is a rough recording of my new song “Baxter.” The lyrics are very depression blues material. Don’t call it emo, though. There are VERY important differences between that junk and blues lyrics. It’s all in the voicing, phrasing and delivery.

    LYRICS

As she walked into the distance,

with a sparkle in her eye,

    she winked at me.

She said something that preturbed me,

with a kindness that was blind,

    to her lie.

She said “hon you are a great man,

but your just too good for me.”

    such a crock of shit.

Though this gal was not the first one,

    I doubt I’ll ever find a woman,

    who will stick around.

    ———

    I’m sick and tired

    Of all the lies.

    ———

Will I ever find a pretty girl,

who will think that I am cute enough,

    to take to bed?

Will I ever find a lady,

who’s as sick of playing games,

    as I’ve become?

And if I ever find this woman,

will I be more than just the friend,

    for her to cry to?

    ———

    Best friends forever,

    but never the lover.

    ———

    Time after time,

Always with the same old line.

    Is there something wrong with

me that I just can’t see?

It seems that I’m doomed to be…

    your friend the Baxter.

    ———

How I’m oh so tired of trying,

to be the one to catch your eye,

    doing all the work.

I think I’m gonna quite this game,

unless the rules begin to change,

    for guys like me.

    ———

And so I sing this song.

    The song of your friend…

    Your friend the Baxter.

    Title: Sunnyside Blues
    Style: Blues/Acoustic
    Instrumentation: Acoustic Guitar / Vocals
Tuning: Standard - Capo on 2nd fret
NOTES: This is as rough as a recording gets, ladies and gentlemen! There aren’t even any lyrics to this one. You will hear me singing lyric fragments of thins I think fit the mood of the song, which is how I tend to work out what kind of story I want to be telling. Enjoy it for what it is!

    I’m back!

Life and writing music for a new musical endeavor has consumed most of my time, but i recently downloaded the trial for Adobe Audition and decided to make a partial cover of this very amusing little song by DaVinci’s Notebook so I can learn the new interface and see if Audition is worth the investment.

I would tell you the name of the song, but that would spoil the surprise. :)

Instrumentation: Acoustic Guitar / Electric Guitar / Vocals
    Tuning: DADGAD / Standard
NOTES: Recorded and mastered at Mysterious Mammal Recording in Glendale, CA. http://www.mysteriousmammal.com

LYRICS: (to be re-written at some point)
    See my eyes…
How they pierce through the dark.
    Seeking truth…
    through the curtains of lies.

    What will I find…
buried beneath the surface of my skin?
    Will I find…
    the quark of my soul?

    —————

    See my eyes…
    searching for the light.
    Buried hope…
    shadowed by clouds of despair.

    How will I know…
when I have found a thing that i can’t see?
    Will it shine…
    the quark of my soul.

    See my eyes…
    weathered and worn.
    Longing to…
Be free of the mask I must wear.

    Set me free…
tear down the walls erected by the world.
    Let it shine…
    the quark of my soul.

FINALLY…another Orchestral update!  This is a piece I threw together this morning before heading off to work.  It is obviously still a work in progress, but I wanted to share it so far since I am very happy with where it is heading.

    Title: Flight of the Peacock
    Style: Big Band
    Instrumentation: Saxophones, Trumpets, Trombones
NOTES: The first four bars were initially written as a showcase thing for the indie fighter “Skullgirls.”  I never heard back from them, but I decided to finish it anyway.  It was written to be the theme for the character “Peacock.”

UPDATE: Quark is now finished!  I recorded the lyrics last night and recorded a new lead part this morning.  The lead guitar will always be a work in progress, but most immediately my thoughts are that I would like to back off a bit while the vocals are happening and go back to the traditional call/response format of blues leads.  Let me know what y’all think!

Back to original material!  This is a song I have been kicking around for most of the year.  I composed it on the spot while playing guitar for my grandparents on my Uncle’s porch.

UPDATE: I added the lead guitar today.  Distortion guitar, of course.

    Stuff to be added: Vocals.
